SS Island Princess

The steamboat Daily operated in the early 1900s as part of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet. In later years, Daily was renamed Island Princess and later Cy Peck.

Construction

Daily was built in 1913 by Matthew McDowell at his yard at Caledonia, near Tacoma. Daily was one of the larger vessels built by Captain McDowell, 116' long, 25' on the beam, 8' depth of hold and rated at 254 tons.Daily was the seventh Puget Sound passenger and freight vessel built by Captain McDowell. Daily was a classic example of a mixed-used Puget Sound mosquito fleet vessel, as shown by photos published and drawings prepared by Professor Turner.

Operations

Daily was placed on the Seattle-Tacoma route, running via points on Vashon and Maury islands.

Sale to Canadian Pacific Railway

In 1918, Daily was sold to the coastal service of the Canadian Pacific Railway, who renamed her Island Princess. CPR put her in the Gulf Islands service, where she made a significant improvement. She was the smallest vessel in the CPR Fleet.Island Princess (ex Daily) ran for CPR from 1918 to 1930. She served points on North Pender, South Pender, Mayne, Galiano, and Saltspring Islands.

The Daily 10 (also known as The D10) is an American daily television entertainment news show that aired on cable channel E! from March 2006 to October 2010. Hosts count down the top ten entertainment news stories of the day.

Segments

In addition to entertainment news, The Daily 10 featured segments that cover fashion, music and movie reviews. Regular segments include: "The Lyon's Den" in which resident movie critic, Ben Lyons reviews upcoming films. "Flashy or Trashy", celebrity fashion critiques by Robbie Laughlin, and "Fashion Trends" with Amanda Luttrell Garrigus.

Every Friday, the show featured rapper Infinite-1 performing the Hollywood Rap-Up.

Other regular segments included "Fashion Round-Up", "Quick Hitters", "Who wore it better?" "True or False", "Now Hear This", and "Spotted."

On weekends, The Daily 10 was compiled of news and segments from the previous week.

Gothenburg

Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborg, pronounced [jœtəˈbɔrj]) is the second-largest city in Sweden and the fifth-largest in the Nordic countries. Situated by the Kattegat, on the west coast of Sweden, the city proper has a population of 543,005, with 549,839 in the urban area and 973,261 inhabitants in the metropolitan area.

Gothenburg was founded by royal charter in 1621 by King Gustavus Adolphus. At the mouth of the Göta älv, the Port of Gothenburg is the largest port in the Nordic countries.

Gothenburg is home to many students, as the city includes both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Volvo was founded in Gothenburg in 1927. The city is a major center for sports and home to the IFK Göteborg, BK Häcken, GAIS, and Örgryte IS association football teams, the handball team Redbergslids IK, as well as the Frölunda HC ice hockey team.

Gothenburg is served by Göteborg Landvetter Airport, located 30 km (18.64 mi) southeast of the city center. The smaller Göteborg City Airport, located 15 km (9.32 mi) from the city center, was closed to regular airline traffic in 2015.

2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships

The 32nd European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at Scandinavium and Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 1–3 March 2013.

Bidding process

The decision to grant the event for Gothenburg was made by the European Athletics Council at their long meeting in Malta on October 15, 2007. Initially, Gothenburg applied for the 2011 Championships against Paris. The European Athletic Association thought the two cities presented very good concepts, and it ended up with the two candidates get one championship each; Paris in 2011 and Gothenburg in 2013. Gothenburg will use the concept All under one roof.

Venue

The main venue for the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be Scandinavium with a maximum capacity of 12,000 spectators, but at the event the arena will have about 6,500 spectators because of the reconstruction. Prior to the championships, the arena floor will be raised 3 metres and be equipped with running tracks. In Svenska Mässan, next to Scandinavium, there will be a Market Square, where various activities will be organized during the competitions. All the victory ceremonies will take place in the Market Square during the evenings. The shot put qualifications will also be held at a special shot put venue in Svenska Mässan. The host city Gothenburg has organized a several championships in athletics before. In 1974 and 1984, Scandinavium hosted the European Indoor Championships. Moreover, nearby Ullevi Stadium has staged the 1995 World Championships in Athletics and the 2006 European Athletics Championships. Last time Sweden hosted the European Indoor Championships was in 1996 when Ericsson Globe in Stockholm held the event.
